How to get stains out of marble countertops - Marble is one of the most beautiful and enduring stones for your home. It has been used for centuries in homes throughout the world. There are countless colors to choose from to fit any decor. They are, however, prone to stains and etching. Here’s a link to a great article if you’re a DYI (do it yourselfer) and have a stain problem: https://marble.com/articles/how-to-get-stains-out-of-marble. In the article, the author makes one mistake when they refer to “etching” marks as stains. They are not! Etching is a breakdown of the surface of marble as a result of acids from wine, coffee, orange juice or a host of other household items that have acid in them. You might think, “I’ll just wipe it up before it has a chance to do any damage”. It literally takes seconds for the acid in the liquid to react with the surface of the stone causing etching.
The best solution to the problem is to eliminate the possibility of etching and staining before it can happen. Opal Luxury Surfaces can do just that. Our patented Sheerstone system protects your marble, limestone and other porous countertops for 10 years, guaranteed!
The process starts by covering your cabinets with plastic and ground cloths on your floors to protect against dust etc. Next we resurface your countertops to prepare them for the application. This also removes existing etching. Our technicians apply the “liquid” self leveling Sheerstone followed by curing that is done with a high intensity UV light source. Within about half an hour we can start to work the surfaces with sanding and buffing pads to give the desired finish of satin, honed or polished.
It generally takes us about 1 - 3 days to complete the job depending on the size and finish and you don’t have to leave your home. Full curing takes about 7 days.
Start enjoying breakfast with your family or an elegant dinner party without the fear of damaging your beautiful marble countertops from etching and staining.
